Project profile · Kathu and the Northern Cape
Commercial developments
Retail, office, workshop and light-industrial buildings for a mining town that keeps growing — scoped, costed and delivered.
The market
Kathu needs buildings.
Kathu is the iron ore capital of the Northern Cape and a town that grew fast around the mine. It already supports three shopping centres, and the retail and office stock keeps being reworked to keep up with demand — which is exactly the kind of work RCT was set up to do.
Kathu Village Mall
On Hendrik van Eck Road at the Debeng road, opened in November 2008 and drawing around 350,000 visitors a month, with a Woolworths Food Market on the way. A centre like this is never finished — it is expanded, re-tenanted and re-serviced year after year.
Heritage Mall
At the corner of Frikkie Meyer and Rooisand roads, Pick n Pay anchored, about 13,949 m² of retail floor, and reopened after a full revamp on 1 December 2023. Revamps of this kind are civil, building and services work done around a trading centre.

How RCT delivers commercial work
- Feasibility and cost advice before you commit: what the site will take and what it will cost to build.
- Civil and building packages, from bulk earthworks and foundations through to structure, roofing and finishes.
- Mechanical, electrical and plant installations — including backup power, water and pumping for trading sites.
- Programme and cost control with monthly progress reporting, so tenants and funders can see the build moving.
- Defect-free handover, with maintenance support for landlords and managing agents after occupation.

Mall facts are taken from the centres' own websites and public property records. The two rendered images are illustrative concepts, not photographs of completed RCT buildings — send us your own project photographs and we will replace them with real ones.
